They are flawed individuals who haven't got a clue about adulting and still get into brawls over the silliest of matters, yet have an unspoken sense of affection for each other which is hard to ignore and wish to make things better for themselves.

The dialogues of the movie clearly portray how skilful a writer Syam Pushkaran is he knows his characters and their surroundings inside out. The layers attributed to each character in this universe that they've built is what makes the film so utterly grounded, situationally funny, and shockingly disturbing at the same time. It is an islet universe than Syam and Madhu take us to, in Kumbalangi Nights, and a beautiful one indeed. I cannot even find the right superlatives to describe the performances put in by members of the cast be it the four brothers - Bobby (Shane Nigam), Saji (Soubin Shahir), Boney (Sreenath Bhasi), and Franky (Mathew Thomas), or the womenfolk who enter the men's lives - Babymol (Anna Ben), Nylah (Jasmine Metivier), and Sathy (Sheela Rajkumar) of course, what rounds off the cast is the cleverly underwritten antagonist Shammy (Fahadh Faasil). Supported greatly by the marvellous cinematography by Shyju Khalid and the hauntingly relaxing musical score by Sushin Shyam, Kumbalangi Nights ensures that it was meant to be 2019's first gem. There is a sense of conviction in each of the scenes that Pushkaran has written and they've been rendered scintillatingly fresh by Narayanan. Why I mention these two names before everyone else's is because I wish to emphasize how the former's effortlessly brilliant writing and the latter's craft are integral to the success of this film.
Kumbalangi Nights is, without a doubt, a simple yet magical tale that the ever-dependable Syam Pushkaran has penned and Madhu C Narayanan has directed. A Classic ! RATING - 8/10* By - #samthebestest Like I said, we have had many brotherhood stories made in Indian Cinema but if you really want to see something realistic, original, organic, simple yet satisfying then make sure you do not miss Kumbalangi Nights.
The essence of simple narrative can tell you so much about content and filmmaking and here's your chance to learn it. To be frank, the film is not anything to go gaga over it or to be praised as one hell of a filmmaking but still it would be unfair to call it an ordinary film because sometimes real strength lies in simplicity and originality. All the actors doing their natural best and all the scenes being captured keeping the real world in mind have worked for the film. It would have been waste of brilliant writing if the execution had took place in dramatic and exaggerating situations. Although it wasn't just about writing those realistic conflicts, the presentation has to match the level and happily this film fulfilled all those odds. It had everything that could happen in real lives, with real brothers and real families. Whatever family dramas or brotherhood tales i have seen till date (there are many) the one thing was there that all these films had cinematic liberty and there were many scenes which never happen in real life but Kumbalangi Nights changed this long time tradition. It looked so real and organic that felt like it was all happening to myself or to somebody in my neighborhood. It wasn't like happening for the first time or something but the narrative never sung any cinematic orchestra tone. Kumbalangi Nights is about four brothers living in dysfunctional area in the village and their strained relationship. I wish every family drama could get as organic as this one with actually no dramatical segments of fights and quarrels.
Brief Review - Feels like a rare Original and refreshing Brotherhood extravaganza from Malayalam Cinema.
